Companion tools

Connect WixPie Online to local projects

A normal browser page cannot directly access arbitrary files or run local builds. The extension and local companion provide that bridge only when you install and authorise them.

Build a local WiX project in three steps

  1. Install the WixPie Local Agent on your Windows PC.
  2. Install the WixPie Chrome Extension.
  3. Open WixPie Online, open your .wxs or .wixpie project, then choose Build. The Local Agent uses the WiX Toolset installed on your PC.

Browser integration

WixPie Chrome Extension

The extension connects WixPie Online to the WixPie Local Agent. It does not replace the agent and cannot provide unrestricted local file access by itself.

Open Chrome Web Store

Installation

  1. Open the configured Chrome Web Store listing.
  2. Add the extension to Chrome.

Permissions

The published listing must explain each requested permission. Permissions should be limited to communication with WixPie Online and the local companion; review the store listing before installation.

Troubleshooting
  • Confirm that both the extension and WixPie Local Agent are installed and enabled.
  • Reload WixPie Online after installing or updating the extension.
  • Check that endpoint security is not blocking local companion communication.
  • Only install releases linked from this official site or the verified store publisher.

Local integration

WixPie Local Agent

The Windows companion performs only the local project operations you request from WixPie Online.

The Windows download is not available yet. No placeholder file will be downloaded.

System requirements

  • A supported 64-bit Windows version.
  • Google Chrome with the WixPie extension for browser integration.
  • Network access to the configured WixPie Online environment.
  • A supported WiX Toolset installation for local builds.

Installation

  1. Select Download for Windows.
  2. The current installer is not code-signed, so Windows may show an unknown-publisher warning. Verify the version and SHA-256 shown on this page before continuing.
  3. Complete installation and accept the Windows elevation prompt when shown.

How building works

When you choose Build in WixPie Online, the Chrome extension connects to the Local Agent through Chrome Native Messaging. The Local Agent uses the WiX Toolset installed on your PC.

Troubleshooting
  • Restart Chrome after installing or updating the Local Agent, then reload the editor.
  • Confirm that the browser extension is enabled.
  • Check local firewall or endpoint-security notifications.
  • Include version information and exact error messages when contacting support, but never send passwords or secrets.
